Oh hello. Sign in Blogspot.com Scripture I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools water and the parched ground into springs. I will put in the desert the ceder and the acacia, the myrthle and the olive. I will set pines in the wasteland, the fir and cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it. Malem Bed-wetting Alarm
For the past 3 1/2 years we've been trying to train John to control his bladder so that he'll be off diapers. (We only had success in the Bowel Movement part). Then we decide to invest in a bed wetting alarm to see if it would help him to recognised the feeling of needing to go to pee. John started using the Malem Bed-wetting alarm sometime in mid February. We used it as frequently as we could whenever we're at home; taking it away during times of illness only. Gradually we realised that he could indicate wanting to go to pee with more certainty. Last month we completely took away the use of the alarm and I'm so happy that he's finally able to stay clean past 3 weeks. He's still on diapers but we think that we're on the right track in getting him off diapers completely.
I'm so HAPPY. Thank you Jesus. Labels: Living Skills

John feeding himself
We had hope that he would feed himself within a year but it took him 3 years to get it. Nevertheless we're thankful he finally got it. We stopped reducing his seizure medicine (Trileptal 300) cos we saw an occasional seizure when he's tired. He still goes for 6 sessions of 1 hour acupunture with herbal medication per week. Thanks to all who've been praying for John. Personally prayer has helped me cope with John's recovery because often I find that it's best to prayer and leave the burden of results to God. Surely Jesus loves him more than I do! Labels: Living Skills

Tea time
John usually eats fruits during tea time and we've been trying to get him to feed himself. We tried big forks, small forks but nothing really worked until last week when I thought of the disposable party forks. This is the seventh time he's using it and I see improvements daily. We've been wanting him to acquire some living skills and feeding himself is obviously on the list.
We don't know about tomorrow and we can't change yesterday but God has given us today for us to work and enjoy. Often I have to resolute not to think about the tomorrows but to just enjoy John's company and progress today. Rom 12:12 reads Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. The patient and faithful part I understand; but the joyful part is something Jesus is helping me work out in my life. Thank you for being a faithful prayer partner. Labels: Living Skills

Ice-cream potong
John and grandpa has a common favourite dessert, ice-cream! It would be difficult for john to scoop ice-cream from a cup at the moment so ice-cream potong is just the right thing. The other voice is grandma's (not in video). It's his 1st time eating it on his own.
We had 2 busy weeks i.e end of Nov. and beginning Dec. John had join in the VBC in church and went to Malacca for the 3rd NECIC conference. He enjoyed being with other children in VBC, just hanging around and listen to the chatter and also the worship sessions. The conference was mainly for mom and dad to learn about disability issues; but we also enrolled him in 'class' where there were toys and other children with special needs. Kakak came along to help him in class. Labels: Living Skills

Dinnner Time
John just learned how to spoon feed himself about 2 weeks ago. He holds the spoon fairly well now but still not able to co-ordinate fork and spoon yet. You'll notice we put his elbow on the table to help him co-ordinate himself when feeding. He needs the support cos the shoulder and upper arm needs more strength and co-ordination

Lunch time
Many people ask if john is eating well. As you'll see he's enjoying his food as usual with limited ability to feed himself. His kakak is feeding him and we had an unfamiliar aunty around so he's a bit "shy".

Waiting for Lunch
John's in his wheelchair waiting for lunch. Since he can't see very well, he appreciates it when someone tells him what's happening around him as in this case. We don't know how much he knows or understands but a familiar voice is always soothing.
