Scripture

I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools water and the parched ground into springs. I will put in the desert the ceder and the acacia, the myrthle and the olive. I will set pines in the wasteland, the fir and cypress together, so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Isaiah 41:18-20

Doing it differently

John has been turning and unscrewing caps using this way; now to teach him something new......

Here you'll see John using more of his fingers to screw and unscrew the wooden block. Before it was more wrist work, now we want him to use his fingers. On and off we have tried to get him to do it this way and now he's beginning to be able to do it. When you work with a special needs person, results don't usually come in a spectacular way but more often then not there's a lot of pain staking effort involved. At times I also wonder when so much effort is put in and there's so little return whether it's worthwhile. But we are made in the image of God, having compassion and kindness even though tainted with selfishness and apathy. Therefore in our gratitude to God we often try to help others. AS much as I have help John to recover, he has helped me to be more and more the person I could be. I think there's no such thing as a meaningless life ( e.g. a severely handicapped person); perhaps a purposeless life.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose". Rom8:28

Pumping up rody

We were at SPICES soon to be open resource centre yesterday. John helped to pump this rody and a small physio ball up. Physio and exercises can be boring but to be able to "show off" your effort is certainly a good reinforcer to work at it.
